Dead Space Facts

tsk tsk tsk….

I’m going to get factual here because I want this person to know what was HAPPENING. Nicole was alone, NO one to talk to, NO one. She was in a dark room full of dead people (incase you haven’t seen the wii Dead Space). theREASONshe killed her self was because she didn’t want to be totally ripped apart morbidly by a once human being. You can say that this isn’t true but it is, I looked it up. It was either being decapitated gradually by a necromorph like what happened with the open heart surgery guy in DS2 or by an injection that simply made her fall asleep. Nicole was not dumb, she was just pressured alone and scared. Atleast with Isaac he had some one he could talk to through a RIG link. Not with Nicole, there was a total connection block out. Once Lexine, Gabe and Nate left her in that room for a loong while, she thought they were dead because they weren’t messaging her of their ware abouts. So, thinking her only means of getting out alive was gone, she decided to take the peaceful way out. As said in her description, Nicole is okay with people around her but she is slightly unstable when she is by herself. As I said before, Nicole is not dumb, she was driven.

I’m sorry for the morbidly serious post but that post really rustled my jimmies.

Also may I interject that no one is without marker hallucinations.  Especially at that time, the signal was broadcasting at its loudest, when it actually broadcasts heavily enough to transform a few people into Infectors.  For those that don’t know, the marker sends out two signals - one is the DNA code, aka create Infectors.  That first signal also sends out the madness, the urge to kill, self-harm, and hallucinations of terror (like necromorphs, or deceased loved ones) and violence.  The SECOND signal sends out “the friendly ghost,” so to speak, the dead loved one who wants the victim to get away from the marker, who warns them to not mess with it, who tells them to not listen to the first signal.   As the first signal becomes stronger, the second loses its wind.  For more, read DS: Martyr,  or play DS2 for the best examples of these.

To break it down: DS1 Nicole is the second signal.  She’s leading Isaac to the marker to TURN IT OFF.  DS2 Scary Nicole is the first signal.  DS2 Nice Nicole (at the end, spoilers) is second signal.

So with that in mind, why did real Nicole kill herself?

More evidence.  Look around: how many people had taken their own eyes?  Or worse?  One woman in the beginning of DS1 ripped her own eyes out.   Others (Nolan Stross) slaughtered their whole families, and tried to kill themselves.  Why?  Because of hallucinations.  Because phantoms tricked them, got the better of them.  Nicole was lucky to stay cognizant for long enough to realize she was going down.    She was a doctor.  She saw an incurable cancer turning people to monsters all around her.  And with her wits about her, she sent out a message and took a way out that 1. Would not harm anyone else 2. Would cause little pain to her.

REREBLOGGING ON DS FACTS BECAUSE

FACT

35 hour long days, 70 minute long hours

Could also be a reference to location DS3 will be set on and how most planets don’t confirm to Earth’s idea of planetary rotation and stuff.

Just thought I’d throw that out there if you thought it was random.

But then again I could be wrong.  We could all be very wrong and it could be a massive hint flapping its buttcheeks at is and laughing because we don’t get it.  Only time will tell.

The Countdown: A countdown to DS3?  Or to the big news at E3 next week?

Attentive observers of the deadspace.com may have noticed something strange under the banner.  Yesterday, when the visceral twitter promoted the website’s changes, I noticed that the banner said, in english:

06 02 36

Puzzled,I tweeted my ire and thought no more of it.  Today, going back to the website to verify some Facts, I noticed things had changed.  The script is now in unitology.  A quick translation provided some new numbers.

And then they began to count down.  I screenshotted the above for you:

6 1 34
6 1 31
6 1 20
6 1 27
6 1 23

Et cetera.  The intervals between sequential changes are a minute apart (though I didn’t ss every minute, as evidenced)

Looking at the aegis7 forums, previously recorded numbers have been:

6 32 44 (yesterday, 12PM~ PST)
6 10 28 (today, 6AM~ PST)
6 9 62 ( ” )

And NOW, some time later, it reads: 5 34 68

Okay.  So now that we’ve witnessed a countdown of the second digit, we can assume that third number = minutes, second = hours, and first = days. (source at bottom of page) :  Also it appears to be going by a day that is counted with 35 hours, and the minute counter probably tops out at 70 (with the first seen ‘day’ being at 34, and the first seen ‘minute’ being at 69).

So lets look at yesterday, 26 hours ago.  The hour count was at 32. A day and two hours later by our count, it says 34.  Does anyone want to do some proper maths with this?  I’m honestly at a loss if their time is squeezed down to fit ours, or if it’s the opposite.  The minutes go by our count, but they have more of them, and more hours.  So if anyone’s willing to lend some maths to this, it’d benefit the whole community.

But let’s assume there’s not something weird going on with the math, just to get an estimate.

5 days, 34 hours, and 68 minutes from now IS in E3.  If I estimate in the excess of hours in the day, it puts the time at about next Wednesday.  So that IS LIKELY what the countdown is for!  And that’s as much as I can truly say without proper mathematical proof!

Dead Space Graphic Novel Short

And just in case you were watching me for pretty pictures, he’s a thing.

mattboy07:

Deadspace.com uploaded a video recently. The animated “Graphic Novel Short” shows some ambiguous things and no concrete information has been posted along side it. Could this lead up to a new game? A stand alone graphic novel? Perhaps it’s setting the stage for Dead Space 3? Anything could be true at this point, but I highly suggest you view it for yourself.

There are some things that can be gleamed definitively from this. This features a new character named “Sergeant John Carver”. He’s apparently having domestic trouble with his wife and new child. He’s obviously related to the same government that has been giving Issac Clarke so much trouble and his R.I.G. and weaponry are clearly military. The setting is on a new planet “Uxor”. The colony on this planet is centered around a new marker that is under the control of this government. Several things are different. A huge structure has been constructed around the marker and as a result, most or all of the residents probably know of the Marker.

Something fishy is clearly present in this Graphic Short. The security system Carver sees has clearly been sabotaged and what looks like a missile hits the marker-shroud, exposing the monolith. This marker shares the same red coloring and scale that rivals (or even surpasses) that on the Sprawl station from Dead Space 2, meaning it too is government engineered. After the attack and Carver screams for his family to get to safety, the marker creates a massive electromagnetic pulse that disrupts the colony’s power and sends ships crashing from orbit straight into the colony’s residential district. Quickly, a new necromorph outbreak occurs and begins spreading.

The three key things one needs to note about this article is that it’s the first time a marker has produced an EMP pulse and starts a necromorph epidemic this quickly. It could be that this marker is different in some way, or that the government has progressed with this marker in some new way. Second, this was clearly no accident with the sabotage and the deliberate destruction of the maker’s protective housing. Carver tries to call his command post to initiate the “EMP protocols” meaning that this is more of an elaborate and well studied marker than the previous games.Third, new necropmorphs are featured and at a faster rate. Strange new hideous forms attack Carver, and a super-beast that we’ve never seen before shows up just before the end of the trailer.

Ultimately, this raises more questions than answers, but still, the evidence is undeniable. Many fans have waited anxiously for any news that E.A. or Visceral Games may announce. Now, it seems that there’s reason to be excited. But about what?

This is a VERY good synopsis of the video with some interesting insights.  I’m adding my own here from the post on my regular blog, just to keep it all together:

NEW INFORMATION AT LONG LAST!!

- Someone attacked the Marker - meaning they knew where it was.  An insider of some sort.  And an apparent suicide attack.  Marker influence, or good samaritan?

- USG Perseus surveillance of the event, including Carver’s transmissions, from orbit, means they are the attackers.  ’Designated target’ and Carver investigating the security scanner and discovering sabotage.  Basically all this means in the larger universe is that there’s a force as secretive and widespread as Unitology.   OR that the attack was conceived BY Unitologists to trigger another event.

- The missile (or suicide attack) hits the marker.  Carver calls for an EMP, there’s a blast, and his rig shuts down.  So was that the EMP going off, or the Marker’s signal changing to a physical / EMP-like thing itself?

- Marker size seems to be correlated with the size and speed of the outbreak.  We know for a fact that humans are trying to replicate the original Black Marker themselves.

My theory is that the larger the manufactured marker is, the more inefficient it is.  Yes.  INefficient.  This goes with the theory that Markers had another purpose (see transcribing the marker for more) and the Black Marker was broken, and thusly they’re trying to copy a broken design.  Humans can’t really grasp the complexity of the Marker, which is stated a few times, and is evidenced by the hallucinations, et cetera, being sort of a primitive way for the marker to communicate.  Thusly when the Marker is built off a broken copy (site 12, aka DS2) it becomes more broken, more inefficient at its original purpose, and more likely to start an outbreak, and with quicker speed.  (Take this into account - the Black Marker’s outbreak took weeks, if not the better part of a month.  DS1’s Marker took a couple weeks.  DS2’s took a couple days.  Site4 took but a comic book instant.)

Also the most important fact:

Earthgov is sexy.

John Carver, Sgt. of EarthGOV
Hello class, after a long absence, we are back in session.  With new material presenting itself, it’s the perfect time to pick things back up.
So let’s talk about John Carver, and what he means (or doesn’t mean) to Dead Space 3, which is rumored to  be revealed in more depth at E3 this June.
First of all, if you’re a dead space fan and haven’t seen this, then welcome to earth: deadspace.com.  I’ll also reblog a great synopsis of the video, in which you can pick and prod all the things presented in the video itself.  That’ll be a discussion about content, and this is simply a discussion about INTENT.
So:  What’s the point of this comic short film?
1. This is NOT the Dead Space 3 trailer.  This is a teaser for what deadspace.com says is “a new chapter in the Dead Space saga.”  People automatically assumed that meant DS3.  But what, in the scope of Dead Space, is a chapter?  It’s a segment of a playable game.  This includes such minor characters as Gabe Weller, Nate McNeill, and Lexine.  The term chapter simply means to say that at some point, John will be a playable character.
2.  John does NOT replace Isaac.  Again - the visceral and dead space twitters AND the website have not said anything of the sort.
True they have not explicitly confirmed Isaac’s return but think about it from a business standpoint.  Why would you, as a company, abandon the main character from the first two parts of your series without so much as a word?  They’re riding the cash cow and they are not getting off.
And think of it from a plot standpoint: Last we left Isaac, he was floating in the void in a shuttle with Ellie, and had sustained some nasty injuries.  At this point he’s also a fugitive of various factions around the galaxy.  Abandoning Isaac at this point would rival Mass Effect 3’s sudden inescapable plothole of an ending.  And this loops back to business - it would be very damaging to the franchise to pull a maneuver so against consumer wants.
Isaac will be back.  Sometimes there’s such thing as confirmation by what ISN’T said.  Think of it as that thing when a witness is really quiet when being asked a nasty question in court tv shows.  Or think of it like a thing that doesn’t need to be said - it’s assumed Isaac will come back, therefore it doesn’t need to be a formal statement.  We’ll call it Isaac’s razor just for fun.  ”It is a principle urging one to select among competing hypotheses that which makes the fewest assumptions and thereby offers the simplest explanation of the effect.” - translation: Isaac needs to be tortured more.
3.  John Carver could be the new co-op character.  This too is neither confirmed nor denied, and we see a pattern here, a lot of pre-E3 vagueness, which is normal.  But for once this is a fan theory I actually agree with.  Co-op ITSELF has not been confirmed.  But here’s how I figure it:
It seems more likely, with DS’s track record, that John Carver would be a DLC character in the likeness of Gabe Weller’s Severed DLC.  BUT.  John is being announced before the official confirmation of the DS3 title, which means he’ll have an integral part in the release date.  We have to have Isaac, because of Isaac’s Razor, and we have to have Ellie, because she was with him.  So how do we figure John into all this?  Antagonist?  Not likely, from the sympathetic portrayal in the mini-comic.  Protagonist?  Again, not likely.  But co-protagonist…it fits.  What did Sherlock say about what happens when you eliminate the impossible?  Yes.  We’ve just done that thing.
4.  This trailer is not a trailer of gameplay.  Simply, no.  It’s art by Christopher Shy, who did the art for Dead Space:Salvage.  Knock his ability to draw comics all you want, but the truth (faaaact?) of the matter is he’s a damn interesting artist, and that’s all the trailer is, is art and a bit of plot for us to chew on.
So, that’s basically what the new content means to us.  For what it means to the plot, stay tuned for I shall promptly reblog A Thing which will elucidate.

lunaticstar:

Yeah, not really.  The guy’s first theory doesn’t even make sense.  It is not a human-forming god machine, sorry.  That doesn’t fit in any way whatsoever.

And the second theory is the widely accepted one, but the “breaking” wasn’t when the sub took out the chunk, as they clearly said over and over that that didn’t actually affect anything.  Altman PUT IT BACK and it changed NOTHING.  The Marker must have broken when it landed.

Also about the Marker sending two distinct signals out, it isn’t contradicting itself from one mind.  It’s two signals, two sources, two damn spirals SO OBVIOUS on the structure itself.  ”Kill yourself” and “Run away” ARE NOT SYNONYMOUS STATEMENTS.

Also, the Marker IS NOT A CYCLE ENDING DOOMSDAY MACHINE.  Mass Effect 3 obviously swayed his words, here.  BECAUSE BIOWARE DID IT IT MUST MEAN VISCERAL MEANT THAT TOO, RIGHT?  No.  If the Marker can be shut down so easily (one guy did it over and over AND OVER) it ain’t a weapon.  No way.

How did this moron get a job blogging for GI?  For god’s sake!  The forums at Aegis7 are WAY more intelligent than this!

*fangirlrage*

Remember, people, not everything you read on GI is facts!  I wrote that rant above, yeah, and it bugs me a lot.  I know my theories and the theories on the Aegis7 forums are not canon.  They are just THEORIES.  But with a little critical thinking, it’s easy to see the gaping holes in that argument on GI.  Read for yourself and make your own guesses: with any luck, DS3 will help elucidate some things.

An excerpt (text log) from the CEC shareholder information packet on planetary mining, from Dead Space.

PLANET CRACKING

Planet mining is, quite literally, the dismantling of planets and moons on a macro-scale. Entire worlds are fractured to reveal the rich seams of valuable minerals contained inside. Despite environmentalist concerns, the operation is perfectly safe and is the only way to extract the necessary resources on the large scale required to supply Earth and the colonies.

You may have read reports that claim the destruction of a planet can destroy an entire solar system due to the disruption in the gravitation forces that hold each celestial object in orbit. Some of the wilder reports claim this causes the whole system to spin out of control or causes planets to smash into each other. Concerned investors are directed to read the article “The CEC Pledge to the Health of Our Universe” for a detailed breakdown of the truths about Planet Cracking. The short answer is: Planet Cracking is perfectly safe and provides an essential service to Earth and the colonies. With all Planet Cracks, the planets are carefully chosen for their mineral content, net worth, and the safety with which they can be dismantled.

Planet Cracking is a lengthy process spanning from three to five years. Generally, the first year is spent prospecting and setting up the colony. The second year and a half involves tectonic excavation and related planet-side activities.

The Planet Cracker class ship arrives between the 2.5 and 3 year mark, depending on the progress of the excavation. Once the ship is in orbit, preparation for tectonic chunk extraction begins. This takes approximately one week.

The removal of an excavated chunk from the planet into a stabilized geosynchronous orbit usually takes about 1 day (24 standard hours). During this process, billions of tons of debris break off from the underside of the chunk, creating an instant asteroid ring around the planet. While the floating debris is extremely dangerous, the Planet Cracker ships have an excellent Asteroid Defense System (ADS) to keep the ship and crew safe from harm.

Depending on the size of the planet, this process is repeated until the entire planet has been broken up and processed.

ABOUT US

The CEC is the largest solar mining and extraction company in the Earth colonies. It is also the fifth largest company in terms of market capital. It has become a powerhouse of industrial might and an influential political force. With a generous budget allocated to election spending, CEC has always been able to maintain and improve its market position.

The CEC owns over 400 deep space vehicles including five Planet Crackers, with the famous USG Ishimura as its flagship. The CEC was the first to develop deep space mining, asteroid catchers and was the first to implement shockpoint drives for commercial use. We are the largest supplier of precious metals.

Out of over three dozen Planet Cracks, only one operation has met with less than optimal results. Many may remember the Wanat Disaster 11 years ago wherein a Planet Cracker, three supply ships and a colony were lost due to a gravity tether failure. Since that time, CEC has worked closely with the manufacturers and held crew training lectures to ensure a disaster of this magnitude never happens again.

We take your financial well-being and the well-being of our employees seriously. When you invest in CEC, you are investing in the future of mankind.

And pictures!  The Sprawl, Titan Station: it actually orbits around the last sad little chunk of the moon Titan.  Some planet cracking going on via USG Ishimura.  And last: gravity tethers!  An important employ of planet cracking technology.

Dead Space: Survivors, Part 2, in no particular chronological order.

1. If you were crazy enough to walk down the dead end hall towards the woman screaming and laughing, you were in for a fun surprise.  Admit it.  You were crazy enough.  Also, wiki has an interesting theory on this woman.  Next to her is a body with the same model, face, wounds and blood spatter (as pictured).  Now while this might be an oversight in skinning NPC’s, it also could be that Isaac is hallucinating her.  She does not react to your presence, and she’s invulnerable to gunfire.  Also, her RIG is empty, indicating she’s dead.  Isaac could have seen her body on the floor, and hallucinated her crazy unhinged laughter all by his lonesome.

2.  Dr. Challus Mercer!  He’s technically a survivor, although he also moonlights as a crazy bastard.  Right after you meet him, he vents the room (with crazy laughing lady in it, see (1)).

3.   This kind lady is the one who gives Isaac his kinesis module!  Out of her mind and blinded, she’s petting and comforting a maggoty torso.  From behind the carcass she takes Isaac’s ‘present’ out, saying that she’d knew he’d come, and that she was saving it for him.

4.  Slasher slashing a dude in the infamous cut off their limbs room.

Survivors: Dead Space

Not everyone on the Ishimura was lucky enough to have an armored RIG.  In fact, most people didn’t.  Since the Ishimura was a mining ship, most personnel were either devoted to the logistics of planet cracking, or maintaining the ship as a floating habitat.  So here’s a little sample of a few of the lucky - then not so lucky - Ishimura survivors.

1. - The infamous head-bashing guy in Chapter 2, the first of many head-bashers in the DS series!
2. -  A nurse who succumbed to Marker-induced dementia chopping away on another person.
3. -  The first encounter with a Lurker.  This poor chap’s hand’s been blown off.
4. -  A man drowned in his own blood after his throat’s been slashed.
